The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is jointly owned and run by four organizations: the British Council, IDP, IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment. It is accepted not only by universities and corporations but by the immigration departments of several countries. There are two basic forms of the test—Academic and General. Both use the same Listening and Speaking sections, but they have different versions of the Reading and Writing Tests. The Academic Test, like the TOEFL, is for people who want to study at universities or colleges in English-speaking countries. The General Training Test is for employment, immigration, or high school purposes. IELTS results are designed to be simple and easy to understand. IELTS can be taken Paper or Computer based. IELTS scores are reported as band scores on a scale from 1 (the lowest) to 9 (the highest). IELTS tests are valid for two years following the test date.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a standardized test to measure the English language ability of non-native speakers wishing to enroll in English-speaking universities. The test is accepted by many English-speaking academic and professional institutions. TOEFL is one of the two major English-language tests in the world, the other being the IELTS. TOEFL is a trademark of the Educational Testing Service (ETS), a private non-profit organization, which designs and administers the tests. ETS issues official score reports which are sent independently to institutions and are valid for two years following the test. Score requirements are set by individual colleges and universities. You will receive a score from 0 to 30 for each section and a total score of 0 to 120 for the entire test. The total test takes about 3 hours to complete, but you should plan for 3½ hours, allowing 30 minutes for check in.

PTE Academic is the first entirely computer-based English language test for international study and immigration that is accepted across the world. Powered by AI technology, PTE Academic provides a fast and convenient testing solution without human bias. The test assesses the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. It lasts approximately 3 hours and provides a score based on the GSE (Global Scale of English).  PTE Academic scores are accepted by thousands of institutions and approved for all UK, Australian and New Zealand visa and immigration categories. Test sessions can be scheduled up to 24 hours in advance, 365 days a year. To complete a PTE Academic test, you will need to attend a secure Pearson test center. You will use a computer and headset to listen to, read and respond to questions. During the three-hour test session, there are three main parts to the test: speaking and writing (together), listening and reading. There is also an optional 10-minute break between the reading and listening parts. During the test, you will find twenty different question formats, ranging from multiple choices through to essay writing and interpreting information. The overall score is based on performance on all test items (tasks in the test consisting of instructions, questions or prompts, answer opportunities and scoring rules). Each test taker will answer between 71 and 83 items in any given test and there are 20 different item types. For each item, the score given contributes to the overall score. The score range is 10–90 points.

The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions in the USA. The SAT is a multiple-choice, pencil-and-paper test created and administered by the College Board. The purpose of the SAT is to measure a high school student's readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants. College admissions officers will review standardized test scores alongside your high school GPA, the classes you took in high school, letters of recommendation from teachers, extracurricular activities, admissions interviews, and personal essays. How important SAT scores are in the college application process varies from school to school. Overall, the higher you score on the SAT and/or ACT, the more options for attending and paying for college or university will be available to you. The SAT takes three hours to finish, plus 50 minutes for the SAT with essay, and as of 2020 costs US$ 52 (US$ 68 with the optional essay), excluding late fees, with additional processing fees if the SAT is taken outside the United States. Scores on the SAT range from 400 to 1600, combining test results from two 200-to-800-point sections: Mathematics, and evidence-based Critical Reading and Writing.
